Tower Over Me

Y fenni, I love cathedrals and churches. Classic!

Margham park manor house, unfortunately vacant and falling to pieces,
here are some of it's best parts.

London streets, so inspirational.

Architecture has been a massive influence on me throughout this course, but I find it hard to use clear inspiration from it. This year it is my aim, my goal, to include architecture as a main and powerful influence on my work. Not because it's pretty, or just because I want to. No. But because architecture, buildings and solid structures house so many things. Lives, lifestyles and secrets. They can be a big giveaway as to what the person who lives or works there is like, what their personality is like, who they are, how they live. We had an interesting lecture with our new seminar tutors Tarrun and Lisa, where we had to tell them what our initial reaction was to them, just from their clothes and how they came across to us. It was amazing how many points we got correct, and amazing the amount of facts you can pic up from an initial outlook on a person. First impressions are everything.

knot knitting

a failed accomplishment over the summer was knit, but I am a very determined person, and i'm sure, by christmas i would have knitted a jumper for each one of my family and friends. Last year I found I had a real affinity for knitwear, on the machines anyway, but hand knitting is a different ball game. The simple idea of fibres criss crossing and weaving creating a garment fascinates my mind, just as last year, the idea of pattern cutting was the same. Knowing now how garments are constructed gives me a wider idea, and a keen search for more knowledge. I find myself looking in shops not to shop, but to imagine and marvel over the stitch, the silhouette and line of the garment. It's the same with knitting. Cable knit is something that I am avidly  keen to create, especially for the autumn/winter collection I have in mind for 2011. I absolutely love D&G knitwear, this autumn/winter 2010, it's amazing, though I was quite disappointed that in the London flagship store they had next to nothing of this statement knit that was so present on the catwalk.
